Equine Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning ‘finger pressure’. It is a practical everyday hands-on therapy based on the same principles as acupuncture and acupressure. Shiatsu uses pressure to gently stimulate the body’s natural healing ability. Shiatsu serves to balance and harmonise energy flow through the sense of touch, gently stimulating the body’s natural healing ability. A balanced flow of energy is both cause and effect of good health.

What to expect from a shiatsu treatment

A normal treatment takes 45minutes – 1 hour. It can be in his stable, outside or elsewhere, depending on where he feels most comfortable.

During a shiatsu session you might see your horse:
Change his breathing
Lick and chew
Yawn
Sigh
Stretch / offer to stretch
Relax completely, some horses even go to sleep

During my visit you will also find out what element your horse is, and what really are the best ways of working with him.

Very important the Vet Act 1962 states that owners must have vets permission for any complementary or alternative therapy. Please make sure that you have spoken to your vet before I arrive. I will ask you to sign a statement to that effect. I am happy to work with vets especially concerning serious injuries or illness, or just to talk about shiatsu in general.
